Discussion: Let's Talk TV

6.13.2016
This may be a book blog, but let's be honest. I watch a lot more TV than I read. Or more accurately, I watch a lot more Netflix and catch up with other shows online, because I don't have cable. Or a TV. I'm not that great at keeping up with airing shows - it's too hard to keep track of what shows are airing which nights or how far behind I am, so I'm definitely more of a binge watcher, but I do keep up pretty religiously with a few shows. Either method works for me! So I thought I'd talk about a few shows that I love, and hopefully you can talk about a few of yours too!

No Longer Airing

LOST

I can't even tell you how many times I've rewatched this. I remember talking about it in my French class in THE 8TH GRADE. It doesn't feel right that I was watching it even then, because I must have missed out on SO MUCH. But that's fine, because now I can watch it whenever I want, as many times as I want. I have a particular affection for the time jumping storyline because when they eventually get stuck in Dharma times, JULIET AND SAWYER. Plus the show includes people stranded on a tropical island with a smoke monster, so I mean, this is my THING.

OFF THE MAP

I AM STILL SO ANGRY THAT THIS ONLY GOT ONE SEASON. It's about doctors who run a tiny little clinic in the jungle that's always low on supplies and I WANT IT BACK. It had two actors I now love on Grey's Anatomy, Rachelle Lefevre who has the greatest hair ever, and that guy who played Matt Saracen. (Also I'm not gonna lie I shipped Ben and Ryan so hard.) Why do we get a decade of The Vampire Diaries but ONLY 13 EPISODES OF OFF THE MAP? The world is an unjust place.

VERONICA MARS

I can't make a post about TV without talking about Veronica Mars. I can't even begin to talk about how much I love this show and what an icon Veronica is. (Also, I NEED MORE LOGAN AND VERONICA IN MY LIFE.) I'm still mad it only got three seasons, though I'm grateful we got the movie, at least.

(I'm sorry I HAD TO USE THIS ONE THE "TOO SEXY FOR THEIR SHIRTS" THING JUST MADE ME LAUGH.)
SMALLVILLE

I'm not sure if I ever watched more than 3 or 4 episodes when this was actually airing, but that's fine, because once it was over I HAD TEN SEASONS TO BINGE. My only complaint is that Chloe and Oliver didn't get more screentime together because I'm pretty sure they were my first OTP.

GILMORE GIRLS

Of course. Also, am I going to get stones thrown at me if I say I really liked Logan and still do? Not that I don't like Jess, because I do, but I think I first started watching when she was with Logan and didn't even meet Jess until I went back and watched the earlier seasons, so I kind of attached myself to him and can't seem to let go. But whatever because RORY AND LORELAI RULE THEM ALL OBVIOUSLY. Plus, NETFLIX REVIVAL.

THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA

Another show that DIDN'T GET WHAT IT DESERVED. Season two finished airing this year and then it was cancelled and I'M STILL ANGRY. This was such a fun detective show and Laura and co. were so awesome.

Currently Airing

GREY'S ANATOMY

Okay, I know a lot of people think this show has gone way downhill and given up. And I get it. A LOT of stuff I don't like has happened. I miss the old days when George was still there and Alex and Izzy were together and Meredith and Derek were happy. I don't always like the new interns. Some storylines aren't quite as interesting to me. But I still love the show. I think it's always been a feminist show but that feminism is so strong now. I love the way the friendship between Meredith and Alex has grown. I'm annoyed that they repeated a storyline with her, but I really do love Maggie. It sucks that I'm always terrified that one of my remaining favorites is going to leave, but honestly, I'm probably going to watch this show until the very last episode. And I wouldn't mind if we got like 17 seasons.

QUANTICO

WHAT AN INTENSE SHOW. I love it. Priyanka Chopra is such an incredible actress and I'm amazed by it. (Also apparently I am the only viewer on the planet who actually likes Ryan but whatever.)

WHAT A DEEP GAZE INTO THE DISTANCE.
HEARTLAND

I'm actually really behind on this BUT. I binged it once in my early times of high school when I was home sick for like a week. I've never even been around horses but it's amazing how much I love this show.

GAME OF THRONES

Yeah, I know there's been a lot of shit, but I CAN'T LEAVE THE STARKS. Or Dany. I could probably survive without anyone else. (Although, like, hey, can we get Gendry back? Is he still alive? Still rowing? WHERE DID HE GO???)

THE NIGHT SHIFT

This one is literally currently airing! It's a summer show about the night shift at an ER where the majority of the staff has served in the army and I only know of one of my friends who watches it.

CHICAGO FIRE, PD, and Med

Honestly I think that Med is my favorite at this point, but I also seem to have an obsession with medical dramas lately. I also think I liked the earlier seasons of Chicago Fire better than I did the most recent season, but I still love the show and also HAVE YOU SEEN TAYLOR KINNEY IN THIS? I've started to lose interest in PD and don't plan to watch Justice (because WOW was that backdoor pilot boring), but I'll probably keep watching because of Sophia Bush.

Okay, this is getting excessively long. I also watch things like The 100, though I haven't managed to get past 3x03 yet, and Shameless (US), though I stopped actually enjoying it around the 4th season when they started screwing every character up. (I LOVE seasons 1 & 2, though.) And yes, I do watch Shadowhunters and ACTUALLY LIKE IT, though that can probably be attributed to Matthew Daddario's face because I am a shallow human being. And like 80 other shows that I should probably save for a part 2.

But more importantly, what are some of your absolute favorite TV shows? Especially ones no longer airing so we can RANT ABOUT THE INJUSTICE OF THE TV GODS.
