I wanted to write a quick post as the semester comes to an end. When I finally started blogging again last year, I had every intention to continue it into the new school year, albeit at a slower posting rate. But it didn't happen, obviously. It wasn't my first year of college, but it was my first year at a big university like mine is, and let me tell you, 17 credits at this school is like 25 credits at my old one. I didn't have time to breathe, let alone read for fun, and I honestly don't know how other college students and people who are full time workers and full time moms at the same time can manage to keep a blog running.
I took my course load down second semester, and it was the best thing I could have done for my sanity. And I'll be honest - if I'd tried a little harder, I definitely could have kept up my blog this spring. But I finally had real free time occasionally, and I think I just didn't want to let go of that. I didn't want to add another responsibility on top of everything else. And I think another part of it was just that I finally found something else I really enjoyed. I took a primate class, I have a job working with monkeys now, and considering reading was the only thing I've ever enjoyed that much, I really wanted to immerse myself in this new and shiny thing.
I've definitely missed out on a lot of books. It's like I don't even know where to start again to find stuff I want to read. But that's the thing - I want to read again. I barely cared that I wasn't reading any YA for most of the year. It's not that I wasn't reading for fun, but I was only reading, like, primate research articles and some fanfiction. But I actually have a desire to blog again, to do an overhaul on the design, to communicate with everyone again. And I can't say that I won't end up drowning again once the fall semester starts, but I can say that I'm going to try a lot harder this time. (And I'm done with Chemistry forever, so at least there's that.)
I know very little about design and coding, so hopefully you'll be patient while I give my blog a makeover over the next month or two. And to celebrate the fact that I'm excited to be back (and to remind people that I'm actually still here), one winner will receive a book of their choice under $16 from The Book Depository. As always, international as long as TBD ships to you!
